US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday evening that he might visit the Middle East at the end of this week if an agreement is reached to end the war in Gaza.
Trump said: "Negotiations with Hamas seem to be going well, and we were just dealing with officials regarding a Gaza deal and we are very close," adding: "It is very imminent and I may travel to the Middle East on Sunday." He also pointed out that all Islamic and Arab countries are involved in the negotiations, which has not happened before. Earlier on Wednesday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi invited his American counterpart to attend the signing of the "Gaza Agreement" in Egypt if it is reached. Al-Sisi said during a graduation ceremony for a new batch of students from the Police Academy: "President Trump sent his envoys with a clear mandate to work to end the war in Gaza," adding: "I send a message to President Trump to continue his support for reaching an agreement on Gaza, and I invite him to attend the signing in Egypt if the agreement is reached." A White House official revealed to a Sky News Arabia correspondent that the American envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner participated, on Wednesday, in meetings in Sharm el-Sheikh as part of efforts to push the "Trump plan" to end the war, explaining that the technical negotiations have reached a decisive stage, expressing the American administration's optimism about the possibility of reaching an agreement soon. In the same context, an Israeli security source confirmed the near reaching of an agreement on the first phase of the plan, pointing to the completion of preparations at the Gaza Brigade base to receive the hostages. Palestinian sources clarified that the next 48 hours will be decisive in determining the fate of the negotiations. For its part, Israeli Channel 14 mentioned that "Israel will sign the first phase of the Gaza deal within two days," noting that the issue of disarming Hamas and disarming the Gaza Strip will be discussed later.
