A report issued by the EastFruit platform revealed that Moroccan exporters of blueberry products have recorded a significant increase in their shipments to Canada.
According to the same source, in the period between July 2024 and June 2025, Morocco exported about 1,900 tons of blueberries to Canada, with a value exceeding 19 million US dollars.
This figure represents double the quantity recorded in the previous season, and a staggering increase of 17 times compared to three seasons ago. The average annual growth rate during this period reached about 160%, thus setting a new benchmark in trade relations between the two countries.
Although Morocco officially began exporting blueberries to Canada in 2008, it was not able at that time to build a continuous presence in the Canadian market. Regular shipments were only resumed in the 2021/22 season, making Canada a relatively emerging and new market for Moroccan blueberries.
The United States remains the main supplier to Canada, accounting for more than half of blueberry imports, while Peru contributes about a quarter of imports, and Mexico, Chile, and Morocco share the remaining share.
Morocco's share has witnessed remarkable growth, rising from 0.16% in the 2021/22 season to 2.3% in the last season, reflecting a tangible increase in Moroccan exports.
Demand for blueberries continues to rise within Canada. In the 2024/25 season, the country recorded a sharp increase in imports from most major supply sources, with the exception of Chile, whose shipments decreased for the fourth consecutive season.
The peak of blueberry imports in Canada comes during July and August, and this period is dominated by American products. While Moroccan exports begin in December and continue until June, with the volume of shipments reaching its peak in April and May, i.e., immediately after the end of the Peruvian season and before the American supplies reach their peak. During this period, Mexico and Chile also export actively, making them the main competitors to Morocco in the Canadian market.
Morocco's success in Canada highlights its emergence as a key player in blueberry production globally, not only in Europe, but increasingly in North America.
It is worth mentioning that Morocco also achieved record figures in blueberry exports to the United States during the past season.
