HIBAPRESS – Chafiq Anouri
Algerian influencer, Aref Mechakra, who is close to the ruling military regime in the eastern neighbor, attacked the separatist "Polisario" Front, in an unprecedented development.
Mechakra said in a post published on his Facebook social media account that "Sahrawis" are busy with tea and traveling between Spain and the Maldives. Mechakra tried in his post to compare the Algerian people's fight for independence from France with "Polisario", which focuses on traveling between countries and tea. Mechakra described those he called the "Sahrawi people," represented by "Polisario," which is based in Tindouf, as "cold-hearted" because, in his opinion, they did not draw inspiration from the Algerian "November revolution" against France. Despite the fact that the post was, in the opinion of some, a reproach against "Polisario," but in the eyes of others, it is a clear indication of an Algerian trend towards paving the way for announcing the acceptance of the self-governance proposal as a solution to the conflict, by showing that the front thinks about travel and tea, more than it thinks about achieving "independence". Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune's recent statements had previously carried another unprecedented development, after he avoided for the first time in his history, talking about "referendum" or "independence" during his discussion of the Moroccan Sahara file, stressing that his country should not be "more Sahrawi than the Sahrawis," and that what they agreed to, Algeria would accept. In addition to that, Mechakra's post exposes another aspect of the suffering of those detained in the Tindouf camps, related to the separatist front leadership's benefit from privileges and tourism to some countries in Europe, America and Asia, while the vast majority of Sahrawis remain trapped in tin dwellings and camps.
