HIBAPRESS – I. Asmlali
The case of the video that sparked widespread controversy on social media has developed after a Thai hotel worker filed an official complaint with local authorities, following her exposure to bullying by a well-known Moroccan content creator, who appeared to make fun of her features while promoting a beauty product.
In her first comment, the worker confirmed via a "story" on her account that she had informed the police of the incident and spoken directly with the Moroccan influencer, clarifying that she did not ask for any financial compensation, but only requested a filmed apology that shows sincere remorse for what she did. Her stance received great admiration on social media, and followers considered it an expression of awareness and maturity, especially in light of the escalating criticism directed at the influencer who later tried to justify her behavior. It is worth mentioning that the details of the incident date back to a video posted by the Moroccan YouTuber on the "story" feature on her account, which is followed by more than one and a half million people on "Instagram," where the camera focused on the worker's face and made fun of her hair for the purpose of promoting hair removal oil. Angry comments spread on digital platforms, through which activists called for the accountability of the influencer, whose actions were described as "inappropriate" and "insulting," while others expressed their solidarity with the Thai worker who showed a balanced reaction following the incident. It is worth noting that the content creator was on a trip to Thailand with a group of her content creator friends, where she documented the details of the trip in several video clips, including the video that caused this wide uproar and brought back to the forefront the discussion about the limits of fame and the responsibility of influencers.
