HIBAPRESS – Rabat
The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Amin Tahraoui, confirmed that the health sector has been facing accumulated challenges for years, including limited health supply, a shortage of human resources, overcrowding, and regional disparities. However, he stressed that saying the health system is "deteriorating" does not reflect the reality of the ongoing reform dynamics.
The Minister explained, while responding to questions from advisors in the House of Councillors, that the sector's reform workshop actually started in 2021, within the framework of a deep and structural vision aimed at addressing the imbalances of the health system radically. He affirmed that the current challenge lies in accelerating the pace of this reform so that its results translate into tangible improvement in the lives of citizens.
Tahraoui highlighted the significant and sustainable increase in the budget allocated to the health sector, which has increased from 19.8 billion dirhams in 2021 to 32.6 billion dirhams in 2025, an increase of +65% over four years, which reflects the state's will to promote this vital sector.
The Minister pointed out that this reform workshop, despite its structural nature and the long-term impact of its results, is necessary to overcome the chronic imbalances accumulated by the sector, while at the same time highlighting the ministry's awareness of the need to accelerate implementation and mobilize all human and material capabilities to ensure fair and equitable access to quality health services across the various regions of the Kingdom.
