The Moroccan U-17 women's national team achieved its first victory in the Under-17 World Cup, after defeating the Costa Rican team with three goals against one, on Friday on the grounds of the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, within the last round of the group stage, thus qualifying for the next round within the competition.
Mayssa Baha opened the scoring early in the fourth minute, before adding the second goal from a penalty in the 39th minute, to end the national team's first half leading 2-0. In the 78th minute of the second half, Costa Rican player Alvaro Fabiana added a third goal through an "own goal," before Costa Rica reduced the difference in the final minutes. This victory is an important point for the Moroccan team after its defeat in the opening match against Brazil 3-0, and its second defeat against Italy 3-1. Thus, the group standings became: Italy in the lead with 9 points, Brazil second with 4 points, Morocco third with 3 points, and Costa Rica in the last place with one point. The teams that come in first and second place in each group qualify directly to the next round, along with the best four teams from the third-place holders, which gives the Moroccan team a chance to move to a new stage within the tournament.
