HIBAPRESS – Casablanca
The Moroccan government, within the framework of the 2026 finance bill, has significantly increased national defense spending, with the budget allocated to this sector exceeding 157 billion dirhams, marking an increase of approximately 17 percent compared to the previous year.
This trend reflects the state's keenness to strengthen the defense capabilities of the Royal Armed Forces and modernize its infrastructure and technology in line with regional and international developments in the field of security and defense.
The item "Acquisition and repair of Royal Armed Forces equipment and support for the development of the defense industry" is the most prominent indicator of the long-term defense spending, as it allows for the financing of programs to equip and modernize weapons and military equipment, as well as supporting national industries related to the defense sector, which enhances self-sufficiency and stimulates local innovation.
This increase in financial appropriations confirms the Kingdom's commitment to developing military capabilities at all levels, whether in terms of technical equipment or training and operational readiness, to ensure the protection of national territory and enhance national security in light of the increasing regional challenges.
Experts believe that the large investment in national defense is part of a comprehensive state strategy, which combines military preparedness and strengthening the local defense industry, while ensuring the preservation of financial balance and the ability to finance other social and developmental sectors within the general state budget.
