French authorities have managed to arrest two suspects in the case of the theft of jewelry from the Louvre Museum, one of whom was arrested while preparing to board a plane to Algeria.
The robbery, which took place on October 19th, caused widespread shock in France and internationally, as it is considered one of the most audacious and sensational thefts in museum history. The arrest of the suspects is a surprising development in an exceptional investigation that has been ongoing for days, as information published by Paris Match magazine indicated that the two men are suspected of belonging to the gang of four thieves who carried out the robbery at the Louvre. The first suspect, who is believed to have actually participated in the operation, was arrested on the evening of Saturday, October 25th, at around ten o'clock at night, at Roissy Charles de Gaulle Airport. Only limited information has been revealed about his identity or background, except that he was about to leave France on a flight to Algeria. Elements of the National Directorate of Border Police (DNPAF) carried out the arrest, before handing the suspect over to the investigators of the Anti-Gang Brigade (BRB) of the Judicial Police in Paris, the body responsible for following up the investigation into one of the most controversial thefts in the history of French museums.
