Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has become a disaster for every Israeli who suffered from the Holocaust.
Erdogan added in a speech to members of his party in Ankara on Wednesday: "Even the Israeli people who spend every night in shelters say that the biggest catastrophe that has befallen them after the Holocaust is Netanyahu." Relations between Turkey and Israel have witnessed great tension in recent years, especially after the escalation of the situation in the Gaza Strip. Ankara strongly criticized the actions of the Israeli leadership, and the two sides practically suspended diplomatic communications at the high level, and only communications at the level of intelligence services remained when necessary.
