Today, Sunday, a Boeing 767-400 aircraft belonging to Delta Airlines landed at Marrakech-Menara Airport, announcing the official opening of the first direct air route linking the Red City and the city of Atlanta.
A statement from the Moroccan National Tourist Office explained that this new flight operates three times a week, placing Marrakech on the map of the largest air hub in the world, connecting the city to more than 125 American destinations. The same source added that this event represents a concrete step towards strengthening ties between Morocco and the North American market for the Moroccan National Tourist Office, the initiator of this strategic partnership with Delta Airlines, making the Marrakech-Atlanta flight, after New York and Montreal, the third direct gateway for Morocco to North America. This route is the first destination for Delta Airlines to North Africa, in a move that reflects the increasing interest of American travelers in Morocco. The opening of this route also represents, according to the statement, a qualitative addition to the air transport system towards Morocco, which is experiencing rapid expansion, indicating that alongside the regular flights operated by Royal Air Maroc from Casablanca to New York, Washington and Miami, Morocco can today rely on three main air hubs in North America directly connected to Marrakech (Montreal via Air Transat, New York via United Airlines, and Atlanta via Delta Airlines). The American market shows enormous potential, as more than 402,000 American tourists visited Morocco in 2024, an increase of 7 percent compared to 2023, while the figures for the first half of 2025 confirm the continuation of this upward trend. The Moroccan National Tourist Office aims to reach the threshold of one million American visitors in the medium term. Delta Airlines, which was founded in 1925 and is headquartered in Atlanta, is among the strongest and most established airlines in the world, operating more than 5,000 flights daily to more than 300 destinations across six continents. Its customer loyalty program, which includes more than 100 million members, is one of the most prominent indicators of the company's strength, as it gives it an accurate view of the destinations that are of interest to American travelers. In this context, the Moroccan National Tourist Office highlighted that the company's choice to add Marrakech to its portfolio of international destinations places Morocco within the circle of interest of a wide segment of loyal customers with high purchasing power, whose trust in the "Delta" brand is an essential element in planning their trips. The statement concluded that with this step, the Moroccan National Tourist Office consolidates an ambitious strategic vision aimed at establishing Morocco's position among the most prominent international tourist destinations, by expanding the direct flight network, strengthening its presence in strategic markets, and diversifying the sources of visitors to ensure greater flexibility and international appeal for the Kingdom.
