The former leader in the separatist "Polisario" Front, Mustafa Salma, considered that it is not in Algeria's interest to oppose the United Nations Security Council resolution supporting the autonomy initiative to resolve the Sahara conflict.
Mustafa Salma said in a post published on his "Facebook" account: "Strategically, Algeria will be as victorious as Morocco," in the event it responds to the Security Council resolution.
He added that Algeria "is not in its interest at all to oppose the Security Council resolution," considering that "abstaining from voting, whether in favor or against, is a position in itself."
He continued that "tactically, it is not in the interest of Algeria or Polisario to miss the opportunity of the current momentum to reach an honorable settlement," adding that "time is in favor of Morocco, which has secured what it wants."
He explained that he expects that "the agreement of all parties is now contingent upon agreeing on the details of the expected autonomy under the auspices of the United States, and therefore, His Majesty King Mohammed VI hastened in his speech to announce that Morocco will update and detail the autonomy initiative and present it to the United Nations…"
