The establishment of the "Moroccan Association of Professional Journalists" was announced in the city of Oujda, during the founding general assembly held on Friday, October 31, 2025, at the space for training and activating the associative fabric, in the presence of a number of journalists and media professionals from various Moroccan cities.
This establishment comes in a national context described as "historic," coinciding with the Security Council's decision supporting the Moroccan initiative for self-governance in the Sahara, where the association considered that this event reflects the close link between the national media message and the defense of the nation's issues and its territorial integrity. The founders confirmed that the association, as an independent professional, social, and human rights body, aims to establish the values of professionalism, independence, and professional ethics, and to defend the professional, material, and moral rights of journalists, in addition to improving their conditions and enhancing the credibility of the Moroccan media. The association also emphasized its commitment to defending the Kingdom's issues internally and externally, and contributing to building a free and responsible national media that keeps pace with the path of development and democracy, calling on journalists holding professional cards to join this new framework to unify efforts and strengthen professional solidarity. The general assembly resulted in the election of Adil Bouhajjari as president of the association, along with an office consisting of Yahya Bali, Abd al-Samad Belaaziz, Imad Shehtan, and Mohamed Achouri as vice-presidents, and Abd al-Ali Jabri as secretary-general, assisted by Ahmed Thabet, while Abd al-Basit Al-Madani took on the task of treasurer with his deputy, Mounia Hadaoui, in addition to the advisors Youssef Akdad, Ahmed Laraassi, Noura Sabrari, Mohamed Talaghi, Hamza Bouzerdouh, and Mohamed Boudhan.
