In a new incident that brings to the forefront the file of drug smuggling across the northern coasts, elements of the Royal Navy were able, this morning, to find 10 bundles of hashish floating on the waters of the Tausart sea, belonging to the municipality of Rawadi in Al Hoceima province.
According to informed local sources, the operation was carried out in close coordination with the elements of the Naval Gendarmerie, who moved immediately upon being notified to the scene in order to seize the discovered quantities and open an investigation under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecution, to find out the source of these bundles and the party to which they were directed.
The initial data indicate that the turbulent weather and sea currents may be behind the bundles being swept to the coasts, while no arrests have been recorded to date.
It is worth mentioning that the coasts of Al Hoceima province experience similar incidents from time to time, where quantities of drugs are found in the sea or near the beaches, which suggests the hypothesis that smugglers abandon them during naval chases or due to disturbances in sailing conditions.
The competent security authorities continue to intensify maritime surveillance patrols along the coasts of the region to reduce international drug smuggling activities and ensure maritime security.
