HIBAPRESS – Tangier
In an incident that sparked much controversy and condemnation in the city of Tangier, one of the official celebrations on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the Green March turned into an absurd scene when loudspeakers blared a popular Algerian song that has nothing to do with the national occasion or its educational values.
The parliamentarian in question, who attended the popular festival organized by the Suani district, did not just participate in the ceremony, which was interspersed with the song, but also posted the video clip on her official Facebook page. The lyrics of the song are not appropriate for the age of the children, nor for the national occasion that commemorates one of the most sacred moments in modern Moroccan history. The video clip clearly showed young children chanting these vulgar phrases in great harmony, behind the singer who seemed to be at a night party, not at a celebration of a national anniversary. This incident, whose heroine was the parliamentarian known as "Khaltou" as the singer addressed her during his musical performance, brings to the forefront the question of the political and moral responsibility of the people who represent the elected institutions in Tangier, and reveals the cultural and educational vacuum that characterizes part of the official activities within some districts.
