In an atmosphere filled with pride and belonging to the homeland, the Moroccan community in Caserta, southern Italy, celebrated the 50th anniversary of the triumphant Green March this evening. This was during a grand national celebration organized by the Southern Italy Union Association in partnership with the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Morocco in Naples.
The celebration was attended by the Consul General of the Kingdom of Morocco in Naples, Hicham Sabata, along with a number of members of the Moroccan diplomatic corps and high-ranking Italian officials, in addition to community and cultural figures from the Moroccan community residing in southern Italy. In a moving speech, the Consul General of the Kingdom of Morocco confirmed that this glorious anniversary constitutes a bright station in the history of the nation, embodying the values of patriotism and cohesion between the throne and the people in defense of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom. He pointed out that UN Resolution 2797 reinforces the validity of the Moroccan initiative for autonomy as a serious and realistic solution to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, thanks to the insightful vision of King Mohammed VI. He also praised the positive role played by the Moroccan community residing in Italy, especially in the south, in preserving national identity and enhancing the image of Morocco as a country of openness and coexistence. For his part, Professor Osama Badri, a lawyer in Italy and president of the Southern Italy Union, explained that the commemoration of this glorious anniversary represents a moment of pride for every Moroccan, and an opportunity to recall the sacrifices and lessons embodied by this historical event, stressing the importance of consolidating the values of citizenship and love of the homeland among the rising generations of the community. The ceremony featured the presentation of traditional artistic performances that added an authentic Moroccan character to the occasion, most notably a performance by the Obeidat Al-Rammah band, which entertained the audience with its rhythms and national anthems, in an atmosphere of joy and pride in the Moroccan identity. The national evening concluded with the singing of the national anthem and raising the Moroccan flags high, amid feelings of pride and belonging, renewing the covenant to be faithful to the homeland and defend its territorial integrity.
