HIBAPRESS – Rabat
This Wednesday morning, a session of the Justice, Legislation, Human Rights and Freedoms Committee was held in the House of Representatives, in the presence of the Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Wehbi, dedicated to discussing the sub-budget project for the Ministry of Justice for the fiscal year 2026.
The session witnessed a frank discussion between the minister and members of the committee regarding a number of files related to the management of the justice sector and the imbalances that hinder the effectiveness of the judicial and administrative system. In his speech, the Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Wehbi, revealed the continued accumulation of a large number of seizures at the Ministry of Justice for decades, saying that some of these seizures date back to 1956 and have not been sold to this day. The minister explained that the matter does not only concern simple seizures, but also includes valuable goods, watches, and other properties that were supposed to be liquidated years ago. Wehbi clarified that the legal procedure adopted in the sale of seizures is complex to the point that it makes it difficult to dispose of them within reasonable deadlines, noting that he had tried to simplify these procedures for three years without receiving a response from the concerned authorities. Wehbi stressed that this situation causes significant financial losses to the state, calling for a review of the legal framework regulating the disposal of seizures in a way that ensures the preservation of public funds and enhances transparency in their management.
