Benmoussa presents key measures to accelerate the generalization of Amazigh

The Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports, Chakib Benmoussa, presented, Wednesday in Rabat, the main measures taken by the ministry to accelerate the generalization of the teaching of the Amazigh language at the organizational, pedagogical and training levels.

Speaking at a study day on “Teaching the Amazigh language in the education and training system: The dialectic of generalization and improvement”, which the minister chaired alongside the Rector of the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture (IRCAM), Mr. Benmoussa, renewed the interest in communication between educators and children at the level of preschool education in the mother tongue, in addition to integrating the Amazigh language into the central and decentralized services of the ministry.

This study day, the minister continued, represents an opportunity to open bridges of communication, consultation and coordination, exchange of experiences and expertise with a view to deepening collective reflection and unifying visions between the different actors and stakeholders, in order to find possible solutions to the various problems concerning the teaching of the Amazigh language, notes a press release from the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports.

Also, it is considered as an opportunity to formulate proposals and recommendations likely to enrich the strategy of the ministry aiming at developing the status of the Amazigh language and improving the quality of its teaching and learning in Moroccan schools, in order to succeed in the challenge of its generalization and learning, he insisted.

The study day is also part of the continuation of the implementation of the project of the progressive generalization of the teaching of the Amazigh language in primary schools, because it constitutes a main component of the Moroccan identity and an official language of the country alongside the Arabic language. It also integrates the objectives of the 2022-2026 Roadmap, which stipulates the expansion of the teaching of the Amazigh language in primary schools with the aim of its generalization in all establishments in 2030.

The program of this study day is divided into two workshops which deal respectively with the generalization of the teaching of the Amazigh language and the quality of the teaching of this language.
