HIBAPRESS – Mohamed Zariouh
In a scene reflecting the extent of pain and grief that overshadowed the community of Tiztoutine in the Nador region, specifically the Douar of Ahrikatn, the funeral of the young man Osama Hamham, who died following a tragic incident that claimed his life at sea, was held this Saturday, November 15th. A large number of the deceased's family members attended the ceremony, in addition to local authorities, elected officials, and residents of the area who did not hesitate to attend to bid farewell to the young man whose life was full of dreams and aspirations.
Osama, who lost his life in a shooting incident by the Algerian navy while attempting to emigrate towards the Spanish coasts, his funeral was a farewell to a young man who was in the prime of his life and dreamed of emigration to improve his living conditions. For several weeks, his body remained in a Spanish hospital, awaiting the completion of the complex legal procedures related to his death. After the completion of the legal procedures, the body was transferred to his hometown in Tiztoutine, where the ceremony began amidst mixed feelings of anger and grief. The incident, which still evokes widespread sympathy in the region, prompted many attendees to express their displeasure, demanding the disclosure of all the circumstances of the incident and holding those responsible accountable. In a moving speech, members of the deceased's family expressed the difficulty of the wait they had endured, explaining that every moment was heavy on them, until Osama was buried today in the cemetery of Douar Ahrikatn. They confirmed that the incident left them with a deep feeling of injustice and anger, especially since Osama was a young man with great hopes in life, seeking only to achieve his future away from risks. The funeral witnessed a massive public turnout from the residents who expressed their broad solidarity with the deceased's family. Many of the attendees raised slogans condemning the "unjustified assault" that led to the death of a young man in the prime of his life who dreamed of a better life. Some also called for the need to take serious steps to prevent the recurrence of such tragedies that cause the loss of lives. At the end of the ceremony, the attendees demanded the provision of real support for initiatives aimed at addressing the reasons that drive young people to risk their lives at sea. They stressed that efforts should focus on improving the social and economic conditions that make illegal immigration a risky option. This incident, which shocked Osama's family and the people of Tiztoutine, remains a turning point in the history of the region and should be an incentive for everyone to work together to avoid further tragedies that claim the lives of innocent young people in a quest for a better future.
