The British Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, intends to impose restrictions on the issuance of visas to three countries if they do not cooperate in the repatriation of illegal immigrants, as part of her plans to reform human rights law and make sweeping changes to the asylum system.
According to the "PA Media" agency, sanctions will be imposed on Angola, Namibia, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to prevent their citizens—including tourists, VIPs, and businesspeople—from entering the United Kingdom, unless these countries demonstrate greater cooperation in the process of deporting illegal immigrants. The "Times" newspaper stated that the move was inspired by a similar policy followed by the Secretary of Homeland Security in the Trump administration, Kirstjen Nielsen. Mahmood said: "In Britain, we are committed to the laws. And when I said that countries that do not repatriate criminals and illegal immigrants will face sanctions, I meant it," adding: "My message to foreign governments is clear: return your citizens or lose the privilege of entering our country." The Home Secretary is expected to unveil a new vision for granting asylum in Britain to those fleeing conflicts and unrest before the House of Commons.
