HIBAPRESS – A. Muhyawi
"HIBAPRESS" learned from a well-informed source that the Legal Affairs Department of the General Directorate of Taxes referred this morning, Monday, November 17, a new batch of files of companies suspected of illegal activity in the field of fake invoices to the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Appeal in Fez.
This procedure came after thorough inspections and extensive scrutiny of the accounts of a group of taxpayers, which were supervised by the regional monitoring teams in Fez during the recent weeks. According to the same source, the judicial referrals were not limited to the suspected companies only, but also included a number of contractors, brokers, and "middlemen" involved in networks promoting forged invoices, after confirming their involvement in transactions that caused significant financial losses to the state treasury, estimated at millions of dirhams. It turned out that these parties were practicing activities based on selling fictitious invoices in exchange for commissions, with the aim of justifying fictitious expenses and raising the value of the declared costs for tax evasion. The same sources also revealed that the regional monitoring services began, about eight weeks ago, to send summons to a number of companies in Taza, in order to verify the status of "dormant" companies and others suspected of being a source of unreal invoices. The specialized teams monitored the circulation of hundreds of fictitious invoices within tax declarations that were submitted within the legal deadlines by some of the taxpayers. This operation falls within the framework of a policy of tightening control and adopting a more stringent approach in combating tax evasion, to protect public finances and strengthen the principle of tax equality.
