Nizar Baraka, Minister of Equipment and Water, confirmed today, Friday, in Laayoune, that the development model for the Southern Provinces continues to consolidate a major transformation that serves Morocco's orientation towards African integration.

Baraka highlighted during the opening session of the tenth annual general assembly of the African Parliamentarians Network for Development Evaluation that this dynamic comes within the framework of the vision launched by King Mohammed VI.

The Minister of Equipment and Water explained that this model has become a reference in the paths of sustainable territorial transformation, economic cohesion, and strengthening African ascent.

The Minister pointed out that this model has created a continuous dynamic during the past years thanks to the harmony of the territorial vision with local participation, proactive governance, and sectoral integration.

He added that it is based on a clear methodology that relies on precise indicators that allow assessing the impact of projects on the ground, whether in terms of economic growth, improving living conditions, creating new opportunities, or reducing spatial disparities.

Baraka noted that the results of ten years of implementing this model show tangible progress in the development path of the Southern Provinces, confirming that the major infrastructure projects carried out in this framework constitute basic levers for transformation and reflect a clear will to connect the north of the Kingdom with its south and open a strategic gateway to Africa.

He recorded that the structured projects, whether completed or under construction, strengthen Morocco's African presence and clearly keep pace with the rise of the Southern Provinces as advanced poles of growth.

Baraka also addressed the importance of projects related to water and the environment, pointing out that diversifying water sources, enhancing storage capacities, protecting against floods, and increasingly relying on renewable energies in desalination of seawater have become essential elements to ensure water security in the face of climate change.

Baraka confirmed that the ministry will continue to follow up on the open projects and support the new generation of integrated programs, with the aim of consolidating the gains, accelerating the pace of development, and ensuring a sustainable and harmonious path for the benefit of the various southern regions.
