Zakiya Driouch, Secretary of State to the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests, in charge of Fisheries, on Friday, November 21, 2025, in Agadir, accompanied by the Head of the Region, the Head of the Central Atlantic Fisheries Chamber, and a number of personalities, conducted a field visit to a number of industrial units specializing in the valorization of marine products, as well as to the Souss-Massa shipyards.

This visit enabled an assessment of the processing, transformation, and storage capabilities in the food industries related to marine products and shipbuilding belonging to the Agadir Maritime District. The visited industrial units reflect the diversity of the valorization fabric in the fisheries sector in the region. The MIRA FISH unit has a processing capacity of 50 tons per day, an annual production of 186 tons, and a storage capacity of 70 tons, with an investment of 10 million dirhams, and a staff of 12 permanent employees and 50 seasonal workers. The Frigoríficos Pina Pesca unit, established on an area of 7,200 square meters, is equipped with a processing capacity of up to 120 tons per day, an annual production of 24,000 tons, and a storage capacity of 1,300 tons, with a total investment of 65 million dirhams. The Fish & Food Process complex includes a unit with a processing capacity of 95 tons per day, a daily production of 84 tons, and a total storage capacity of 460 tons, in addition to a storage unit with a capacity of 500 tons and a total investment of 11 million dirhams. On the other hand, the Souss-Massa shipyard, which was established in 2009, built 43 ships between 2017 and 2025, including 36 ships flying the Moroccan flag. The achievements include sardine ships, tugboats, line fishing vessels, marine hovercrafts, and catamarans. The factory employs 40 people and faces technical limitations related to the infrastructure of the Agadir port, which limits shipbuilding to less than 40 meters. It is worth noting that the Agadir Maritime District recorded, by the end of October 2025, a total volume of 68,492 tons worth 2.8 billion dirhams. The quantities of coastal and traditional fishing discharges reached 36,354 tons, while deep-sea fishing recorded 32,138 tons. The active fleet includes 1,803 units that made 50,899 sea trips, while the number of active sailors on board the ships is 16,106 sailors. The industrial fabric of the region also includes 107 approved units that provide about 15,000 direct jobs. The exports of the industrial units in the Agadir Maritime District, during the year 2024, totaled 121,232 tons worth 7.03 billion dirhams, distributed among canned products, freezing, semi-canning, in addition to fishmeal and fish oils. It is also noted that during 2025, 50 violations were recorded by the services of the Fisheries Delegation in Agadir, while the Regional Command of the Royal Gendarmerie, the Royal Navy, and the Judicial Police detected 83 additional violations. On the sidelines of this visit, the Secretary of State held a meeting with representatives of professional associations in the region, in order to discuss the issues facing the sector and study the competitive prospects and efficiency of the sector.
