The famous Indian actor Dharmendra, one of the most prominent and popular stars of Indian cinema, passed away yesterday, Monday, at the age of 89, after an artistic career that spanned decades, making him one of the pillars of Bollywood films during the seventies and eighties of the last century.
Dharmendra, who would have turned ninety on the eighth of December, had entered and left the hospital several times in recent weeks in Mumbai, before a high-ranking security official confirmed his death, after consulting the supervising doctor, without disclosing his identity. Upon the announcement of the news, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his condolences, considering Dharmendra's departure "the end of an era" in the history of Indian cinema. Modi said in a post on the "X" platform: "Dharmendra was an iconic cinematic figure, and an exceptional actor who gave every role he embodied a special charm and depth.
