HIBAPRESS – Dakhla
The coasts of the city of Dakhla witnessed an intensive security campaign in recent days, with the participation of various competent authorities, including the delegation of maritime fishing, the Royal Gendarmerie, and National Security, within the framework of efforts to address illegal fishing operations during the biological rest period.
According to professional sources, the interventions targeted a number of attempts in which some sought to exploit the ban period using illegal means, such as inner tubes and inflatable boats equipped with engines. These interventions resulted in the arrest of 20 people suspected of being involved in these activities, in addition to the seizure of 20 inner tubes, 150 kilograms of octopus, 100 kilograms of various types of fish, and two inflatable boats equipped with engines. The detainees have been subjected to custody measures, while the Public Prosecution has opened an investigation to determine responsibilities and arrange for legal follow-up related to violations of the laws regulating the fishing sector and damage to natural resources. This operation comes in the context of continuous efforts to strengthen surveillance on the Moroccan coasts and reduce activities that threaten the marine environmental balance and the economic sector related to fishing, especially since the octopus is one of the most important marine resources supporting the local and national economies.
