Local public opinion in the Taza province is witnessing a renewed discussion about the performance of the current governor, Rachid Benchikhi, and the extent of his ability to continue what was achieved during the era of the previous governor, Mustafa Al-Maaza, whose name was associated with the residents with the implementation of a number of projects and the strengthening of communication channels with citizens.
On the one hand, observers of local affairs believe that the previous stage was characterized by the launch of structured projects concerning infrastructure, the rehabilitation of collective centers, and support for social programs that met the expectations of a wide range of residents. Governor Al-Maaza was also known for adopting a direct listening approach, whether through official meetings or field visits, which revealed problems that had been outside the focus of attention for years. In contrast, citizens today look forward to Governor Benchikhi continuing the same approach, and giving a new impetus to stalled or postponed projects, especially in the health sectors, breaking isolation, and activating local investment. Civil society actors emphasize that the success of the current stage is linked to the extent of enhancing transparency, strengthening dialogue with civil society, and activating tracking mechanisms and strictness in the implementation of projects. Between those who believe that the new governor has an opportunity to give a new developmental breath to the region, and those who fear a slowdown in the pace of achievement, the final judgment remains subject to what the coming months will witness of tangible decisions and measures that may restore confidence among the residents, and put Taza on a development path that lives up to its aspirations.
