HIBAPRESS – Abdelatif Baraka
The Court of Cassation in Rabat has revived the "Iron Safe" case, one of the most controversial cases in the Souss region, by annulling the appellate court's ruling acquitting the defendants and referring the case back to the Criminal Appeals Chamber in Agadir for a retrial.
The decision came after accepting the appeal filed against the acquittal, considering that the case requires a re-evaluation of the evidence and facts by a new judicial body, while adhering to the legal observations contained in the cassation decision.
The case dates back to 2021 when the theft of an iron safe was reported from the office of a businessman in Oulad Teima, containing checks and valuable real estate documents, which made the case the subject of extensive media and judicial follow-up.
The previous judicial path witnessed an initial conviction of the accused, before they were acquitted on appeal, and the Court of Cassation's decision today brings the case back to the forefront, pending the outcome of the upcoming hearings.
