Athletics: Ukrainian Mahuchikh breaks world high jump record

Ukrainian Yaroslava Mahuchikh broke the world record for the high jump by clearing 2.10m on her first attempt at the Paris meeting on Sunday.

The reigning world champion, 22, erased one of the oldest world records in athletics: the 2.09m set by Bulgarian Stefka Kostadinova, which dated back to 1987.

Mahuchikh, an Olympic bronze medallist in Tokyo 2021, had a personal best of 2.06m which she first improved by clearing 2.07m on her second attempt.
