HIBAPRESS – Ayman Al-Mughrabir
On Sunday, November 30, 2025, the residents of the Al-Mohit neighborhood in Sidi Rahal Chati staged a protest during which dozens of residents expressed their rejection of what they described as the "random licensing" of a liquor store in the middle of a residential neighborhood, without respecting the sanctity of the neighboring educational and religious institutions.
The protesters confirmed that the store in question is located next to a private educational institution, and a short distance from the neighborhood mosque, which the residents considered a "clear violation" of the foundations of coexistence and community security within the region. They explained that the presence of such activities in an environment that witnesses intense movement of students and families represents a real source of concern and threatens their safety and peace of mind. The protesters demanded that the local authorities review the licensing decision and withdraw it immediately, while calling for investment in social and cultural facilities for young people, such as youth centers and women's clubs, instead of "bringing liquor stores closer" which they considered does not meet any local need, in the absence of foreign residents or data justifying their presence within this residential neighborhood. The residents stressed that the development priorities in the region should be directed towards creating recreational and cultural spaces that contribute to the framework and integration of young people, and not towards commercial projects that may increase social tensions and affect public tranquility, stressing their continued protest until their demands are met.
