HIBAPRESS – A. Mahyawi
On the occasion of the National Day for People with Disabilities, Mr. Abdelkrim El Ghanam, the governor of Taounate province and head of the Regional Committee for Human Development, made an official visit today, Thursday, December 4, 2025, to the Basmat Amal Center for Mental Disability in the Taounate commune, which was implemented within the framework of the National Human Development Initiative programs.
This visit falls within the context of the proximity policy pursued by the governor of the province, and in line with efforts to support vulnerable groups. During the event, he oversaw the activities organized by the Josour Al Amal Association for Solidarity and Human Development, which supervises the management of the center in partnership with the Regional Committee for Human Development and the Regional Delegation of National Cooperation. During this event, the Regional Delegate of National Cooperation presented a detailed presentation on the outcome of the services provided to people with disabilities in the region, including reception and guidance, distribution of technical aids and assistive devices, and follow-up of income-generating projects for the benefit of this group, in addition to efforts to improve the schooling of children with disabilities and support specialized centers. The governor and his accompanying delegation toured the various facilities of the center, where they viewed the educational, therapeutic, and artistic spaces, and the corridors of the products of children with autism and the creations of the beneficiaries of the center's services. He was also given extensive explanations about the center's tasks and programs by the president of the association and the head of the social work department. The governor of the province followed part of the training program directed to families and guardians of beneficiaries, and to educational and administrative staff, organized under the slogan: "Continuous training for parents and staff is a lever for empowering people with disabilities", which is supervised by specialists in the fields of paramedical support, with the aim of strengthening the capabilities of the direct environment of the beneficiaries and improving their social and professional integration. The Basmat Amal Center is one of the most important model projects funded within the program to combat vulnerability under the National Human Development Initiative in Taounate province, as a total financial envelope of approximately 4 million dirhams was allocated to it, in partnership with the Taounate commune, the Regional Council, the Regional Delegation of Health, the Youth and Sports sector, and the Josour Al Amal Association. The Regional Committee for Human Development has also worked on the implementation of a series of projects accompanying this group in a number of territorial communities, including the equipping and construction of specialized centers, providing school buses, wheelchairs, hearing aids, and medical glasses, in addition to supporting associations working in the field of disability, based on a detailed diagnostic study of the situation of disability in the region. On the sidelines of this visit, the governor made another tour of the Beit Al Rahma Center for Abandoned Children, adjacent to the Basmat Amal Center, to follow up on the conditions of care for this vulnerable group.
