The Moroccan Agency for Drugs and Health Products has issued a warning to citizens, especially those with diabetes, regarding the use of some medical devices for monitoring blood glucose levels. The warning specifically targets continuous glucose monitoring sensors of the "3 FreeStyle Libre" and "FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus" types.
The agency clarified that the manufacturer responsible for these devices has withdrawn several batches internationally due to the possibility of a defect that could lead to inaccurate readings of glucose levels. This may result in inappropriate treatment decisions, posing a significant risk to the health of diabetic patients. The Moroccan agency emphasized that these devices are not officially registered in Morocco, and their sale or distribution within the country is prohibited. Nevertheless, they may be marketed illegally through some electronic platforms and social media. The agency called on diabetics using continuous glucose monitoring sensors to exercise caution and avoid using these devices of questionable safety, to protect their health and safety.
