Elements of the Coast Guard belonging to the Royal Navy thwarted, early this Monday morning, an attempt at illegal immigration off the coast of the Driouch region, after intercepting a traditional boat carrying 41 candidates for immigration towards the Spanish coasts.
The operation was carried out during a regular maritime patrol, after the suspicious boat was spotted at sea, before the naval units intervened quickly and efficiently, which enabled the arrest of all candidates in safe conditions and without any injuries being recorded. Initial data indicated that among those arrested was one immigrant of Tunisian nationality, along with seven minors from different regions, while the rest of the candidates belong to a number of cities and villages in the north of the Kingdom. The detainees were transferred in the early hours of this morning to the port of Al Hoceima, where they were handed over to the competent security services, in order to subject them to the applicable legal procedures and investigate the circumstances and details of this attempt.
