US President Donald Trump affirmed on Tuesday that any negative ruling issued by the US Supreme Court regarding the tariffs he imposed on several countries would be "the greatest threat to American national security."
In a post on the "Truth Social" platform, Trump stated: "The biggest threat in the history of national security for the United States will be a negative decision on tariffs from the Supreme Court. We will be financially defenseless." Trump had signed, on April 2 of this year, a presidential decree imposing reciprocal tariffs on imports from other countries, with a basic rate of 10 percent. Earlier, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that tariffs could bring the US economy between $300 and $600 billion annually. For their part, scientists from Yale University estimated that these tariffs could cost American families about $2,400 annually, pointing out that even if consumers consume cheaper products, the losses will still be estimated at about two thousand dollars.
