HIBAPRESS
Today, Thursday, in Rabat, the activities of the 14th session of the annual international conference "Atlantic Dialogues" were opened, which is organized by the Policy Center for the New South, under the high patronage of King Mohammed VI.

The opening of this event, which is being held at the center's headquarters at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, was attended by the King's advisor, Andre Azoulay, along with prominent Moroccan and foreign figures, diplomats, researchers, and experts from think tanks and the private sector.

This session (November 11-13) which is an extension of the 2024 session that expanded its framework to include a multi-disciplinary platform, aims to analyze the various current crises in order to propose reform measures that are compatible with contemporary reality.

The Executive Director of the Policy Center for the New South, Karim Al-Aynawi, affirmed at the opening of this event that this meeting seeks, in line with the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to constitute an open space that "brings us together for constructive and serious discussion".

He added that the "Atlantic Dialogues" is no longer just an annual event, but rather, over the years, it has embodied a "culture" of "organized and structured" discussion, which the center is keen to disseminate, appreciate, and transmit to the younger generations in Morocco and abroad.

Al-Aynawi explained that choosing to hold the conference at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University "was not by chance, but rather comes as an extension of a high-level cognitive infrastructure that we seek to establish" within the center.

On the other hand, Mr. Al-Aynawi highlighted that highly important topics, such as relations between the North and the South, promoting multilateralism, and the impact of regional blocs, have always formed the core of discussions and deliberations since the launch of the conference in 2012.

The conference consolidates its position as a forum that brings together the four continents overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, aspiring to renew understanding of the dynamics between the two sides of the Atlantic, and to highlight the growing strategic role of the South Atlantic in global economic and geopolitical discussions.

The event began with a first session that addressed the ability of democracy to fulfill its promises in a world characterized by profound transformations and a loss of trust.

This session revolves around nine public sessions that highlight various topics, in addition to twenty workshops within small groups, providing a suitable framework for extensive discussions on Atlantic transformations and the new challenges facing international cooperation.

It also addresses issues that have not been widely addressed, such as the growing role of global commercial waterways as strategic common benefits for world trade, and their role in reducing geopolitical tensions and protecting marine ecosystems.

The "Atlantic Dialogues" seeks to promote practical discussions that pave the way for actual measures, and it has succeeded to date in building a community of more than 2,000 participants who share a new vision for Atlantic Ocean issues and the opportunities it offers. The carefully managed sessions are keen to encourage frank and informal interactions between the audience and experts.

The conference was opened with the presentation of the twelfth edition of the "Atlantic Currents" report issued by the Policy Center for the New South, a report that has analyzed since 2014 the most prominent trends in the Atlantic basin.

On the sidelines of the conference, the Policy Center for the New South organizes the twelfth session of the Young Leaders Program, which benefits about forty young men and women professionals between the ages of 25 and 35, mainly from countries in the Atlantic space.
