HIBAPRESS – Ouezzane
Al Wahda Dam, in the province of Ouezzane, continues its preparations for the new rainy season, relying on a water reserve of approximately 2.76 billion cubic meters, with a filling rate of 80.1 percent, following a previous rainy season characterized by significant water inflows.
Al Wahda Dam, built on the Ouergha River, is the largest dam in Morocco in terms of storage capacity, with a total capacity of nearly 3.4 billion cubic meters. It also represents a strategic facility for water resource management in the Sebou basin, by providing irrigation water, contributing to the production of electrical energy, and supplying drinking water.
During the past rainy season, the dam received water inflows amounting to about 4 billion cubic meters, equivalent to 169 percent of the average inflows recorded in a normal year, which contributed to strengthening its water reserve and increasing its filling level.
With the approach of the new rainy season, dam status monitoring and water reserve tracking operations continue, with the aim of ensuring balanced management of the reservoir and maintaining a margin for receiving expected inflows, thereby supporting water security and enhancing the facility's readiness to deal with the developments of the upcoming season.
