Discover the International Day of Cooperatives (#CoopsDay): “Cooperatives build a better future for all”

This year on July 6, the International Day of Cooperatives (#CoopsDay) with the theme “Cooperatives building a better future for all” celebrated the current and historical contributions of cooperatives to a sustainable future by accelerating efforts to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. The theme aligns with that of the upcoming Future Summit: “Multilateral solutions for a better future”.

On the occasion of the 2024 Day, cooperatives were able to highlight their principles of inclusive and sustainable growth, principles that contribute to protecting the environment and combating climate change. Through democratic governance and shared ownership, cooperatives provide a concrete example of peace and stability by bringing together people from diverse backgrounds on an equal footing and promoting understanding and respect.

The 2023 report of the United Nations Secretary-General on the role of cooperatives in social development recognizes that cooperatives have a proven track record in promoting the economic and social development of all people, including marginalized groups.

This day strengthens the momentum towards the International Year of Cooperatives 2025, declared by the UN last year.
