The health office in Berlin announced the recording of the first case of the "Mpox" strain of the "1b" category in the German capital.
The infected person is a man who showed symptoms including fever, rash, and swollen lymph nodes. He had traveled to a European country during the potential infection period and had not received the vaccine against the disease. He has been placed in home isolation.
According to the Robert Koch Institute, 16 cases of this category have been recorded in Germany since October 2024, 9 of them this year, most of which are related to travel to African countries where the virus is endemic, while the total number of infections with the "Mpox" strain reached 498 cases without deaths.
The authorities confirmed that there is no evidence of wider spread or greater severity of infections of this category in Europe.
