The mystery surrounding the fate of the Egyptian opposition politician and former member of parliament, Mostafa El-Naggar, is escalating, following reports from journalist Mohamed El-Baz that El-Naggar died while attempting to flee to Sudan to avoid the execution of a judicial ruling issued against him about eight years ago.
It is worth noting that El-Naggar, a dentist born in 1970, was one of the prominent activists of the January 25, 2011 revolution, and was elected as a deputy in the first parliament after the revolution, before founding the "Justice" party in 2013. However, the in absentia ruling against him in the "insulting the judiciary" case forced him to disappear from view since then, amidst previous official statements denying his detention or forced disappearance. El-Baz's statement about El-Naggar's death on the borders sparked widespread controversy, as the family and human rights activists confirmed that this news is not based on any official evidence or official record, calling on the authorities to announce the truth transparently. Hani Ibrahim, the Secretary-General of the National Council for Human Rights, also stressed that talking about his killing remains mere allegations that cannot be verified until an official statement is issued by state institutions. Security experts confirmed that the possibility of El-Naggar escaping and dying remains possible if he engages in illegal behavior, but they stressed the need to provide official evidence before adopting any narrative. It is worth mentioning that the last known appearance of El-Naggar was in September 2018 in Aswan governorate, before contact with him was completely cut off, which increased the complexity of the situation and the speculation of public opinion. The "Justice" party and family members demanded that the case be dealt with legally and humanely, while emphasizing their right to know his fate, and called on anyone who possesses confirmed information to reveal its sources and enable the family to be reassured about El-Naggar. The case remains the focus of great follow-up between the media and the public, pending any official statement that clarifies his fate.
