HIBAPRESS – Abdellatif Baraka
With the approach of the 2025 African Cup of Nations, the Moroccan authorities have begun to implement a package of organizational measures aimed at securing the event and ensuring it proceeds in a safe atmosphere, especially regarding the use of drones by visitors coming from abroad.
In this context, the customs services have issued a guide directed towards the “CAN” audience, clarifying the new rules related to the import of technical equipment, especially drones, whose use has become widespread in photography and individual coverage.
The guide clearly emphasized that the entry or use of drones within the national territory remains prohibited without prior authorization from the competent authorities, highlighting that any device found without an official permit may be subject to seizure or confiscation. The authorities also called on all arrivals to declare these drones upon their arrival at border crossings to avoid any legal issues.
The clarifications were not limited to drones only, as the customs services reminded of the need to declare foreign currencies equal to or exceeding 100,000 dirhams, while emphasizing that the entry or exit of the national currency remains permitted up to 2,000 dirhams only.
In return, the guide included reassuring signals regarding a set of facilities granted to visitors, including allowing the transportation of pets, provided that the required health documents are available, in addition to the entry of processed and ready-made food products, as well as medicines accompanied by legal medical prescriptions.
These measures come in the context of comprehensive preparations to ensure the success of the African Cup of Nations, where the authorities seek to reconcile the requirements of security and organization on the one hand, and to provide comfortable reception conditions for the African and international audience on the other hand, reflecting the image of Morocco as an organized country capable of hosting major sporting events.
