National coach Walid Regragui confirmed in the press conference preceding the opening match of the African Cup of Nations between Morocco and Comoros that the football experience should not be limited to pressure or results only, but is an opportunity for learning, development, and building a new mentality among players and fans alike.
Regragui added that the Moroccan national team has gone through important stages of transformation. In the past, the main goal was participation and joy, such as celebrating qualification for the World Cup or celebrating a draw against strong teams. He continued, saying that this trend changed over time, as Morocco is now striving to compete for titles and achieve major results, adding: "If we have a one percent chance, we must be up to the challenge, and we continue to strengthen this confidence."
Regragui continued: "Before, we celebrated qualifying for the World Cup.. And in 2022, a madman like me came and said, 'Have faith, we can win it'."
Regragui explained that this new mentality represents the "new Morocco" that aspires to compete at all levels, stressing that the goal now is to maintain this level at which the national team achieves important achievements and consolidates its position on the international scene.
