The Algerian national team received an unexpected blow after their hard-fought victory over Burkina Faso with a score of one goal to nil, within the framework of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, after it was confirmed that their striker, Mohamed El Amine Amoura, is suffering from physical problems that may prevent him from appearing in the next match.
Amoura, the top scorer for the German club Wolfsburg, participated in the match for approximately 88 minutes, but he was not in his best physical condition, as a result of feeling pain in his shoulder muscle, which reflected on his performance on the field. The Algerian newspaper "Competition" revealed that the "Greens" striker tried to avoid strong clashes with Burkina Faso defenders, who are known for their strong physical build, fearing the aggravation of the injury that has been bothering him for a while. The same source explained that the player, along with the technical and medical staff of the Algerian national team, seem very worried about the development of his health condition, especially since Amoura had previously suffered from the same injury during his career, whether with his former club Union Saint-Gilloise of Belgium or later with Wolfsburg. Mohamed El Amine Amoura is likely to be absent from the next match for the "Desert Warriors" against Equatorial Guinea, in order to give him a rest period and undergo intensive treatment, in the hope of preparing him completely before the date of the round of sixteen. Despite his absence from scoring so far, Amoura continues to provide distinguished levels since the start of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, as he constitutes an important element in the system of coach Vladimir Petković, thanks to his ability to occupy more than one attacking position, whether as a winger or as a pure striker, with the same quality and effectiveness.
