The local authorities in the Rehamna province have taken a set of proactive measures following the warning issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology.

In this context, the Regional Vigilance Committee of Rehamna held a meeting on Friday at the prefecture headquarters, dedicated to assessing the situation and reviewing the necessary preventive measures to reduce the potential risks arising from the expected heavy rainfall.

This meeting, chaired by the governor of the province, Aziz Bouiniyan, was an opportunity to reiterate the importance of adopting a proactive approach and mobilizing all human resources and logistical means available to the relevant departments.

The governor of the province emphasized during the meeting, which was attended by all the relevant departments, especially the Civil Protection, security services, local authorities, technical and social services, and the Moroccan Red Crescent, the need for vigilance and immediate response to any developments in the weather conditions in order to ensure the protection of people and property.

He also called on all stakeholders to maintain the highest levels of mobilization and strengthen coordination between the various stakeholders to ensure rapid and effective intervention in emergency situations.

Regarding educational institutions, the governor of the province called for raising awareness among parents and coordinating with the regional authorities regarding any potential suspension of classes in educational institutions exposed to the risk of flooding as a precautionary measure and to ensure the safety of students and educational and administrative staff in the face of the dangers resulting from floods, which require caution and vigilance.

During this meeting, a set of measures were taken in anticipation of adverse weather conditions and heavy rainfall.

This primarily concerns the enumeration of buildings threatened with collapse, which could pose a danger to their residents, in addition to sheltering homeless or at-risk people in reception centers.

In a statement to the Moroccan News Agency, the head of the Risk and Natural Disasters Management Department of the Rehamna province, Afif Abdelmotalleb, confirmed that the province activated the regional vigilance mechanisms following the warning issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology, noting the raising of the level of vigilance in various points and areas exposed to the risk of flooding, with the mobilization of human and logistical resources to ensure effective coordination and immediate intervention.

He added that "these measures also include conducting awareness campaigns for the benefit of the population, as well as students of educational institutions, and taking the necessary arrangements regarding damaged classrooms in educational institutions, including suspending classes if necessary.

He also pointed out the cleaning of sewers and waterways in coordination with various stakeholders, in addition to closing some roads and tracks whenever necessary.

Regarding dilapidated buildings, he highlighted that in implementation of the ministerial instructions in this regard, the prefecture of the province has initiated enumeration and field inspection operations, in order to assess the damage and intervene immediately in cases that pose a danger and threat to the safety of citizens.

He stressed that "the regional committee will remain in a state of constant alert until the causes of the danger have disappeared and the warning has been lifted, while continuing communication with the population with the aim of protecting them and protecting their property."

For his part, the regional director of the multi-service regional company of Marrakech-Safi, Mustafa Alhadr, confirmed that the company has mobilized all human resources and material means at the provincial level in order to deal with any situation that requires intervention, especially at the level of the rainwater drainage network and sewage networks.

In this context, he stressed that the company's teams remain mobilized throughout the day and the week in order to intervene immediately when necessary, in full coordination with various stakeholders, including local authorities, territorial communities and other partners, as well as with citizens, which ensures the efficiency of interventions in the various concerned points.

He added that there is continuous communication with all field stakeholders in order to identify places that may experience bottlenecks, whether at the level of rainwater drainage networks or sewage networks.

These interventions come within the framework of a comprehensive approach that aims to enhance prevention and preparedness for the repercussions of climate fluctuations in order to ensure the safety of citizens and their property.
