The U.S. Department of Justice published a document of charges against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, who are detained in New York.
The document published on the Department of Justice website on Saturday accuses Maduro of "leading a corrupt and illegitimate government for years."
The document also claims that Maduro misused the government's authority in illegal activities, primarily drug trafficking, and that drug trafficking activities contributed to the enrichment of the political and military elite in the country.
The document also stated: "Maduro has cooperated with the most dangerous drug traffickers and terrorists in the world."
Earlier, CNN quoted a federal official that Maduro and Flores will appear before a federal court in Manhattan next week.
On Saturday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a large-scale operation against Venezuela, which resulted in the arrest of its President Maduro and his wife, and their deportation from the country.
