HIBAPRESS – Abdellatif Baraka
Search and rescue efforts are ongoing for hours to find a man and his daughter after they were swept away by strong flash floods in the Sidi Waaziz valley in the Taroudant region, in a tragic incident that cast a shadow over the area and left a state of sadness and grief among the local population.
According to the available data, the case involves a girl, about 17 years old, who is studying in the second year of the baccalaureate, and her father, who is about 60 years old. The two had settled in the Sidi Waaziz center about three years ago, while their origins go back to the Aghbalou region of the Tanzert community. Field data indicates that the father went earlier today to bring his daughter from the educational institution, where he succeeded in crossing the valley the first time without any difficulties. However, the situation changed suddenly during their return, after the water level of the valley rose rapidly as a result of the torrential rains, which surprised the father and daughter before the water swept them away with force. Following the incident, the competent authorities mobilized their various interests, where civil protection elements, supported by the Royal Gendarmerie and the local authority, began extensive combing operations that extended for more than three kilometers from the point of the incident, amid difficult conditions due to the strength of the water current and poor visibility during the night. The search teams were forced to temporarily suspend the combing operations at about three o'clock in the morning, before resuming with a primary focus on the vicinity of the incident site and its course. The population of the region is still closely following the developments of this painful incident, awaiting official data that may reveal the fate of the father and his daughter, while renewing calls for the need to exercise caution and avoid crossing valleys during periods of rainfall and sudden floods.
