Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on the United States to exert direct pressure on Russia through an operation to remove Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov from power, similar to what happened with Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro.
In statements to reporters, Zelenskyy confirmed that the operation against Maduro showed Washington's ability to influence the policies of countries, adding that the removal of Kadyrov might make Russian President Vladimir Putin recalculate his attack on Ukraine. He said, "They must put pressure on Russia… They have the tools, and they know how to use them. And when they really want to, they can do it." These statements came days after an operation carried out by U.S. special forces in Venezuela against Maduro and his wife, which caused international shock and condemnation from Moscow, while Zelenskyy later jokingly indicated that Putin himself could be a similar target if the United States wished.
