HIBAPRESS – Abdellatif Baraka
The Congolese fan "Michel Koka Mboladinga" turned into a striking icon in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations held in Morocco, after he captured the attention of the crowds and the media with his silent stance and symbolic representation that brought to mind the image of the historical leader Patrice Lumumba.
This exceptional presence did not go without appreciation, as the sports authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo decided to honor him with a four-wheel drive car, in recognition of his role in presenting a respectable image of his country. The honor came immediately after the "Leopards" team exited the round of 16, following a dramatic loss to the Algerian team with a goal in the final minutes. Despite the bitterness of the elimination, the fan "The Statue" remained the talk of the tournament, thanks to his remarkable calm and the message of symbolism he carried in the stands, which made him the center of widespread sympathy from various African fans. In media statements, Mboladinga described his experience at the "Moroccan CAN" as amazing, stressing that the public turnout to him was so large that it was difficult to leave his place of residence, due to requests for photos and interviews. He considered that this interest reflects the position of Congo and its historical symbols in the collective African memory, and gives his country a positive radiance wherever it goes. The Congolese fan also had a remarkable moment of solidarity from the Algerian side, after the end of the match, where the team's shirts were presented to him after a previous scene that sparked controversy, before the page was closed in a sporting spirit. The celebration did not stop at this, as the organizing committee of the tournament extended an official invitation to him to attend the final match, consolidating his position as one of the most prominent faces of the current edition of the African Nations Cup.
