Three athletes from the Tunisian delegation participating in the Junior World Weightlifting Championships in Spain have left, apparently preferring irregular migration.
The secretary general of the Tunisian Weightlifting Federation, Ali Al-Zouari, told the German Press Agency (dpa): It is suspected that the three athletes left the mission headquarters yesterday, Thursday, and it is likely that they headed to Switzerland, according to video clips circulating on social media.
Al-Zawari added that the Federation had opened an investigation into the incident and was expected to issue a statement later.
The Tunisian delegation participating in the tournament is composed of five athletes, including two girls, while the three men have left.
This is not the first incident in which Tunisian athletes have chosen to immigrate irregularly by sea or leave international events, once they arrive in one of the European Union countries with limited residence visas.
