Bank Al-Maghrib reported that the exchange rate of the dirham fell by 0.4 percent against the Euro and by 0.8 percent against the US dollar, during the period from January 1 to 7, 2026.
Bank Al-Maghrib explained, in its weekly bulletin of economic indicators, that no auction operations were conducted in the foreign exchange market during this period. The same source highlighted that official reserve assets reached 444.2 billion dirhams on January 2, recording an increase of 0.3 percent week-on-week, and 19 percent year-on-year. The total interventions of Bank Al-Maghrib reached an average daily amount of 160.9 billion dirhams, distributed in the form of 7-day advances amounting to 70.7 billion dirhams, long-term repurchase operations of 51.4 billion dirhams, and secured loans worth 38.5 billion dirhams. At the interbank market level, the average daily trading volume reached 5.2 billion dirhams, and the interbank rate stabilized at an average of 2.25 percent. During the tender for January 7 (maturity date January 8), Bank Al-Maghrib injected 53.8 billion dirhams in the form of 7-day advances. Regarding the stock market, the "MASI" index rose by 3.2 percent during the period between January 2 and 7, compared to the end of December 2025. This development reflects, in particular, the rise in the indices of the "Metals" sectors (plus 9 percent), "Transport Services" (plus 3.8 percent), "Real Estate and Building Materials" (plus 2.8 percent), and "Banks" (plus 1.8 percent). As for the weekly volume of exchanges, it decreased week-on-week from 11 billion dirhams to 2.9 billion dirhams, which was mainly in the central stock market.
