The Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Suriname have reaffirmed their firm commitment to further enhance bilateral cooperation, which serves the interests of the governments and peoples of both countries.
A joint statement signed today, Thursday, in Rabat, following discussions between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and Cooperation of the Republic of Suriname, Melvin Bouva, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Abroad, Nasser Bourita, stated that "the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Suriname have renewed their commitment to further enhance bilateral cooperation, which serves the interests of the governments and peoples of both countries." The statement clarified that the two ministers, during this meeting, expressed their satisfaction with the close ties of brotherhood, friendship, and solidarity that unite the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Suriname, and with the level of relations between them, adding that Melvin Bouva held "fruitful discussions on issues of common interest with his Moroccan counterpart." In this context, the two ministers praised the current level of bilateral relations and the results achieved within the framework of the cooperation roadmaps for the periods (2017-2021) and (2021-2024). They also discussed future prospects for bilateral cooperation to meet the aspirations and ambitions of the two friendly countries. Bourita and Bouva also signed a roadmap for cooperation covering the period between 2026 and 2028, in addition to signing two agreements concerning cooperation between diplomatic academies and in the field of renewable energy. On the same occasion, the two parties highlighted the significant economic qualifications of the two countries, and renewed their firm commitment to developing an economic partnership of mutual benefit and increasing the volume of trade. They also agreed to provide a more favorable climate for mutual investments and to encourage business people in both countries to make optimal use of the opportunities offered by the markets on both sides and the development of infrastructure. On the other hand, the statement indicated that Morocco praises the vision and strategic leadership of Her Excellency Jennifer Simons, the first woman to assume the presidency of the Republic of Suriname, especially with regard to "access to climate finance for countries with dense forest cover and low rates of deforestation," as well as "her efforts in the socio-economic development of Suriname and its population, and the Caribbean region in general."
