Abdelssamad Guiouh, Minister of Transport and Logistics, confirmed that traffic accidents in Morocco are still on the rise, with motorcycle riders being the most affected. The minister explained, during a session of oral questions in the House of Councillors, that previous efforts, such as the distribution of 50,000 helmets and the installation of some radars, were not sufficient to curb this phenomenon.
Guiouh revealed a new program for the period 2026-2030 aimed at reducing traffic accidents by 50% in terms of the number of fatalities and injuries, with a total cost of 8.5 billion dirhams. He added that addressing the situation includes training and deterrent measures, in addition to reviewing laws related to road safety. The minister pointed out that the measures will be gradual according to the regions, explaining that the pressure on the roads differs from one region to another, such as the Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab region compared to Casablanca-Settat or Rabat-Salé-Kenitra, which requires specific measures for each area.
