The Senegalese President, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, sent a letter of thanks and appreciation to King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan people, confirming that the tensions that occurred in the African Cup of Nations "did not exceed the boundaries of sports competition."
The message came during a speech delivered by President Faye on Tuesday at a ceremony to honor the Senegalese national team, the winner of the cup, at the Presidential Palace in Dakar. The President, on behalf of the Senegalese people, expressed his great appreciation to the King and the Moroccan people for the "warm welcome, hospitality, and special care" that his country's delegation and all participating teams received, praising the quality of the organization. Faye stressed that "nothing can affect the depth of the old and friendly Moroccan-Senegalese relationship," calling for adherence to the bonds of brotherhood that unite the two countries. He also congratulated the Moroccan national team on its "distinguished" journey in the tournament.
